About Bryan Mickleburgh

Bryan sitting with the bronze bust of Buffalo BillWilliam Bryan Mickleburgh was born in London in 1940, the son of a mounted policeman and a milliner.

Interested in art from a young child, he won his first award, for a figure drawing, from the Royal Academy of Art when he was 10 years old. As a young man he trained as a craftsman carpenter and later worked as a costumer for the television and film industries. Always interested in the American West he started a business - Bryan’s American World of Costumes and Props, to supply the film and television industries. Over the years he has worked with many celebrities, including Benny Hill, Michael York, Larry Hagman, Morecombe & Wise, the Two Ronnies and David Essex, and, having discovered his gift for sculpture, he modelled statues of Yul Brynner, and Barbara Windsor.

Best Wishes from Bill ClintonIn 1991 he modelled a Bronze Head of William Cody (Buffalo Bill) which was exhibited at the Royal Academy of Art and later went on show in Harrods. It now stands on display at the Roy Rogers Museum in Apple Valley, California. He later modelled, also in bronze, a life-size statue of William Cody which was presented at the American Embassy in London to the American people as a gift from the artist in 1998. It is the first life-size statue to be presented to the Unites States of America since the Statue of Liberty and now stands in Cody Park in Nebraska as a monument to the life of William F Cody. It has been valued by Lloyds of London at £250,000.

Later works include a statue of Sitting Bull in fibre-glass which won a silver award from Madame Tussauds, and now stands in their museum in New York on 42nd Street, bronze busts of Iron Eyes Cody and Chief Dan George and a Bronze Buffalo for Elk Lodge, Nebraska. One of his more recent works is a copy of the famous statue of the Bucking Bronco by Remington, now displayed at the Professional Rodeo Association premises of Wyoming, U.S.A.
